Echoes of Practice
As part of the summer residency and work period 2024 at OMSTAND, visual artist Ide André was invited to organize an artist-take-over at OMSTAND from July 15 to September 15, 2024. Under the title ECHOES OF PRACTICE, he initiated collaborations, organized several public events, and used OMSTAND's spaces to develop and create new works. This first resulted in a duo exhibition featuring André and German artist Arthur Löwen. Following that, he collaborated with two fellow visual artists, Jonathan van Doornum and Mischa Doorenweerd, to organize a project titled A COLLECTIVE EFFORT, a gathering-slash-happening involving several guest artists, forming a large collective for the day. Next, Ide, along with alumni from ArtEZ-AKI, organized the project WAITING FOR AN ANSWER, a one-weekend group show. ECHOES OF PRACTICE concluded with a solo presentation by Ide André himself, where he exhibited a series of new works alongside some of his existing pieces.
(1) First presentation:
ECHOES OF PRACTICE: ECHOES OF PRACTICE (DUO)

From July 27 to August 4, 2024.
The opening of ECHOES OF PRACTICE, the first presentation, took place on Saturday, July 27. For this event, Ide organized a collaboration with fellow visual artist and painter Arthur Löwen from Germany, where their work was shown together in a duo presentation. The exhibition remained open on July 28 and August 2, 3, and 4.
Although their works are clearly different, André and Löwen share a common interest and attitude towards painting, which was the main reason for this collaboration.
During the opening, there was a guest performance by Fellatio, a new, young, fresh, energetic post-punk-avant-garde-disco-power-funk-ish group from Rotterdam.
(2) Second presentation:
ECHOES OF PRACTICE: A COLLECTIVE EFFORT
Open to the public on August 11, 2024.
In the second weekend of August 2024, Ide André collaborated with two fellow visual artists, Jonathan van Doornum and Mischa Doorenweerd, on a joint presentation titled A COLLECTIVE EFFORT. The inspiration for this project stemmed from the work of happening artist Allan Kaprow, performance groups like Gelatine, and the social work of Rirkrit Tiravanija.
A COLLECTIVE EFFORT showcased the outcome of this collaboration, delving deeper into the concept of 'collectivity'. Ide, Jonathan, and Mischa each invited other participants, thus bringing their forces together. A collective event for one day—a gathering without a predetermined result or specific goal, except that the outcome of this collective effort would leave traces to be exhibited the next day.
The participating artists in this event were: Jonathan van Doornum, Mischa Doorenweerd, Krystel Geerts, Aalt van de Glind, Ricardo van Eyk, Bram Kuypers, Floortje Wijnands, Lenn Cox, Sophie Kerkhof, Mark Alexander, and Ide André.
(3) Third presentation:
ECHOES OF PRACTICE: WAITING FOR AN ANSWER
Open to the public on August 17 and 18, 2024.
On Saturday, August 17, the opening of WAITING FOR AN ANSWER took place, a one-weekend group show by eight graduate artists from the 2023/2024 season, who are now alumni of the Fine Art Painting department at the AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design in Enschede. Ide André is a tutor in this department at AKI ArtEZ and is directly involved with this group.
The artists involved were: Marijntje Hijgenaar, Sam Groninger, Jojanneke van Tuijl, Lea van Vlodrop, Isa Bongers, Collin, Simon Scharinger, and Cat Chan.
(4) Fourth and final presentation:
ECHOES OF PRACTICE: ECHOES OF PRACTICE (Ide André SOLO Presentation)
Opening on September 7, also on view until September 15, 2024, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00.
As part of this solo exhibition, and the final presentation at OMSTAND for now, Rob Groot Zevert engaged in a conversation with Ide André about his work and the Artist in Residence Take-Over. Groot Zevert inquired about the artwork, the process, the studio situation at OMSTAND, complemented by Ide’s experiences during this work period, exploring how they have influenced his choices and ways of thinking.
